Applied Ability Awards (AAA)TTFW has started work on an exciting new programme of chef training in Wales. Responding to high demand from chefs for more robust practical qualifications and higher levels of technical skills, we have teamed up with the Welsh Culinary Association and Cambrian Training Company to pilot AAA in Wales. AAA is available throughout the UK, however the Wales pilot has added value built in - senior chefs will be trained as workplace mentors, giving them specialist skills to help and train the chefs in their brigades. In addition businesses will be able to access a vast resource of business support through the Welsh Assembly Government’s Workforce Development Programme. At the moment the awards are available at two levels, Foundation Level and Chef Level, but the Master Chef level is in development and will be available in the future. AAA is delivered entirely in the workplace so no time off is required to prepare for assessment. Candidates will be examined by a rigorous three-hour practical test and a written paper at specialist test centres throughout Wales. Candidates will be tested on their ability to prepare dishes from across the whole of the Triple A syllabus and will be assessed by leading master chefs. This is an excellent opportunity for us to elevate the standards of hospitality in Wales and give our visitors the food experience to remember. There are places for 90 mentors and 180 learners on the programme. If you are interested in taking part please contact: edwardowen-davies@ttfw.org.uk for further information.
